If you’re thinking about adding a tree to your landscape this year, I’d like to share a recording of a webinar I gave yesterday called Planting Trees for Future Generations. It covers how to choose a tree with proven success, how to plant using smart techniques and how to care for your tree long term. Planting a tree is an important act that brings critical benefits to your landscape and the larger community.
The planting and care recommendations in the webinar apply across Colorado and the inter-mountain west. The species recommendations are specific to Colorado Springs area, which is 6,000-6,500 ft elevation. If you live at a lower elevation you have even more options. Lucky you (can you tell I’m slightly envious?). If you live at a higher elevation, Colorado State University Extension has a great list of options here.
Those of you who have been gardening for a while, could you please list any trees that have particularly successful for you in the comments section? If you could also list the city or growing conditions, we can collectively assist some of the newer gardeners out there.
With snow and freezing temperatures this past week, it’s wise to put off planting for a little while (except for cool-season vegetables and landscape plants that were overwintered outside). But it’s not too early to make a game plan based on solid information. I always purchase trees at local nurseries due to their species selection and grower relationships. Many of them are offering curb-side pickup.
Hope you all are doing well and staying healthy. Spring is right around the corner!
Thank you so much for your great video’s(webinars). It is a wonderful way to learn and remember.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks very much for the encouragement, Gerda. I hope you are having a wonderful spring!
